The history of video conferencing has been a saga of four major challenges: quality, reliability, scale, and ease-of-use. Quality and reliability have diminished in importance with the advent of high definition audio and video, and ubiquitous bandwidth. Scale is an economics challenge for enterprises trying to support large numbers of endpoints or conference with large numbers of participants. And ease-of-use has many dimensions depending on what features are needed and whether support is required for ad-hoc or inter-company calls. So where does the cloud come in? Just how well do current generation cloud video conferencing (VCaaS) and unified communications (UCaaS) services address the remaining challenges? And what gotchas, if any, do these “as a service” offerings bring?
This session will provide insight into the strengths and weaknesses of cloud video conferencing vs. traditional solutions, the risks involved in moving to cloud and how to mitigate those risks, what to look for in selecting a cloud provider, and what the differences might be between the video providers.
