The cellular carriers’ 5G service has dominated the conversation in the mobile space, but what new capabilities have they delivered? In the meantime, the number of Wi-Fi connections continues to exceed cellular subscriptions, and new market entrants are itching to offer new varieties of wireless solutions. In this session we’ll take a close and critical look at what the carriers have delivered on the 5G front, and what kind of success they’ve had. Most importantly we will look at how the competitive environment is shaping up with the Internet of Things (IoT), private 5G and Wi-Fi/cellular convergence.

We will focus on three broad areas: Mobile broadband service; private 5G; and emerging options for rural broadband. You will come away with an understanding of how mobility technologies are developing, and where they might present new options as your workforce evolves and potentially becomes more dispersed.

  • A clear description of what the carriers have delivered in the way of 5G capabilities and where they can have an impact on your business.
  • Understanding of the critical role the mobile device manufacturers play in determining which network--Wi-Fi or cellular--the device will choose, and how that may have to change with 5G.
  • Characteristics that identify prospects for private 5G, and answers to the question: Does my company “fit the profile” for private 5G?
  • Whether 5G Enhanced Mobile Broadband, SpaceX, or any of the other emerging rural broadband alternatives may be able to meet or exceed the cost/performance/reliability to challenge cable modem or fiber access
  • Key factors to recognize in assessing both existing and proposed wireless offerings.
