There are still plenty of premises-based PBX and contact center systems out there, deployed by enterprises that have been reluctant to move to the cloud—often because of concerns about security or cost. But not moving to the cloud carries risks and costs of its own, and these are likely to grow over time: Some premises systems are already at or approaching end-of-life, and time will only increase this risk; there is not much path for integrating legacy and cloud systems; and vendors are putting all of their R&D into cloud-based systems. So how do you weigh the effects of these risks and make sure you don’t wind up with stranded investments that can’t support the capabilities your users need? In this session, a a nationally-recognized consultant will offer his advice about how to plan your migration away from legacy systems, even if you’ve resisted the move up til now.

Takeaways:

  • Which systems and technologies are already end-of-life or most at risk of becoming stranded investments?
  • What timeline should you plan for your migration to the cloud, and what’s the degree of risk for waiting?
  • How do you craft a business case for moving to the cloud rather than continuing to “sweat the assets”?
  • If your premises-based deployments are still in place, but you rolled out cloud services selectively to deal with the pandemic and remote work, how can you leverage this initial step as you plan a full migration? What are the challenges?
