Customer communications and messaging, as operational, transactional or customer service content, has seen transformational changes brought about by mobile devices. Today, customer and corporate communications overwhelmingly take place on the primary device where information and value are exchanged: the smartphone. Apps, SMS and mobile email have been channels for interaction, each with their strengths and weaknesses. Apps, while rich and personal, are challenged by reach. SMS is ubiquitous yet can lack depth and richness in content. Email has reach but is challenged by the sheer volume of undesired messages. The revolution happening today is new video and rich media mobile messaging channels—like MMS and the arrival of RCS—that offer reach, ubiquity, ease-of-use, and web/app-like interactive video, images and other rich media experiences that provide optimized and personalized information or customer lifecycle content. This session will outline how personalized rich media is being deployed today in MMS, and how the evolution from SMS to RCS will change how enterprises communicate with customers by the end of 2019.
