We're used to hearing "do more with less," but what we really need to focus on is making sure our IT/communications spend is thoughtful, and especially, valued to the organization as a whole. Identifying and correcting overspending in the IT/communications environment is an ongoing challenge, but necessary for building credibility and securing influence within the enterprise. Once we've eliminated wasted spend, we can focus on funding projects that'll be welcomed as critical to the company's success, making IT/communications less of a "commodity" to the organization, and more of a valued asset. In this session, we'll explore ways to achieve a leaner, more cost efficient IT/communications environment, while increasing the influence IT can and should have in ongoing operations and future project adoption. You'll come away with specific areas to look for savings, and ways to translate this into strategic positioning for IT/communications.

Takeaways:

  • Identifying IT waste reduction opportunities and correcting the causes of overspending without cutting functionality, resources or removing useful services--getting "lean and mean."
  • Encouraging and empowering IT/communications staff to fully comprehend and embrace the company's long term strategy, so they think in terms of strategy as well as tactical.
  • Developing project ideas to support the company's overall growth plans and competitive plays and pitching those projects during budget season with justification.
  • Identifying new project opportunities during the year to spur company growth and address operational performance challenges before they occur.
