Video conferencing standards (SIP, H.323) paved the way for reliable video calling between different video systems and calling services. However, the need to follow these standards also stifled innovation.
Today, many leading providers (e.g., Cisco, Google, Microsoft, Zoom, and others) leverage proprietary platforms and protocols for their video calling, which has allowed them offer new features and experiences. However, these proprietary platforms don't always play well together. Sometimes features are lost. Sometimes calls between the platforms aren't even possible.
Desktop and mobile users can circumvent interop issues by using multiple calling apps on their devices. However, meeting room video systems can't jump between platforms and apps so easily.
In this session, you'll learn about the current video interoperability challenges between vendors, how the providers are addressing these issues, and what you need to do to make the best of this fluid situation. You'll come away ready to make the right decisions for your meeting rooms.
