Jim Oligney, ITS Manager Collaborative VoIP, Florida State University
30+ years in the Telecom Industry. At Florida State University my team and I manage all of the Universities telephony needs, have it be analog, VoIP, Contact Centers, Teams, Zoom, Ring Central, sensa alarms, conferencing, softphones, desk phones, directories, carrier trunks, SBC’s, blue lights, elevators, emergency phones, E.O.C, dispatch, 911 and E911, etc.
Florida State recently issued and ITN to the manufacturers and partners for an Enterprise Hybrid Telephony replacement. This will be my second ITN for the University since I have been at FSU. I have done previous ITN’s at Leon County Government, Tallahassee State College. Each migration comes with a unique set of challenges. I rarely dabble on the network side of things unless I’m forced into it. Telecommunications is by far more challenging then networking in my opinion.
I have a military background; I have an AA and I was the North Florida Avaya Users group president for many years. I have presented at Educause and some small technical groupings. I enjoy the telephony field as there is never a dull day and I strive to forecast the future telephony.
