Mark Winther leads the Telecom & Network Consulting practice at IDC. This helps clients meet their business planning goals, and enrich their marketing programs. His global consulting team leverages the knowledge assets of more than 150 communications analysts worldwide to effectively develop solutions and services that global clients require. Projects delivered by the telecommunications consulting practice cover: SDN/NFV and next generation infrastructures; SD-WAN and virtual networking services; UCaaS, CPaaS, CCaaS advanced communications solutions, enterprise mobile applications, enterprise digital transformation, edge network sizing, 5G adoption scenarios, vertical industry use cases.
Mark Winther originated IDC's analysis of communications APIs, and lead the first CPaaS voice, text and video market analysis programs. He is the founding producer of IDC’s GTI - Global Telecom Indicators, a continuously updated database of revenues, financials and operational statistics for over 550 telecom, cable TV and satellite TV operators worldwide. A customized analysis on top of public financial statements, GTI enables operator performance cross comparisons by geography, market segment, and product offers, IDC GTI is a one-stop-shop for understanding the $1.4 trillion telecommunications industry.
Prior to his role in IDC consulting, Mark Winther managed IDC’s syndicated research services for telecommunications. This covered: Ethernet, MPLS and optical networking, mobile broadband, mobility applications, VOIP and converged services, residential broadband and fiber markets.
Winther is a frequent speaker at industry events worldwide such as Enterprise Connect, Interop, Broadband World Forum, Carrier Virtualization and SDN World Forum, Huawei's Ultra Broadband Forum, Mobile World Congress, Oracle Open World, Policy Control Forum, Capacity Asia, and at private client events.
Has BA from Swarthmore College and attended the Masters Program at the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Pennsylvania.
