Michael Butler, Director of Network Services, Palm Beach County
As the Director of Network Services for Palm Beach County, Michael Butler has guided the creation of PBC Enterprise Network from less than 150 users in 10 buildings to the current status with over 17,000 users in over 580 facilities over 1800 miles of private fiber. The Palm Beach County enterprise network is currently recognized as one of the country's preeminent local government networks. Michael's teams are responsible for all communication support for County, Constitutional Offices, and other Municipal networks and communications, including over 10,000 Voice over IP phones, Cellular, and Video Communications. Network Services is also responsible for all network security for Palm Beach County Government, including coordination with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The security section also supports secure remote access to the network, including telework options. His teams also support the operation of Palm Beach County's 911 network.
In 2006 Michael helped facilitate partnership agreements with Palm Beach Broadband members to develop and implement one of the country's first successful Digital Inclusion projects. Due to COVID19, his team is working with the School District to expand those Digital Inclusion initiatives to support students throughout the County by covering over 450 square miles of the County with free public wifi.
